Canvassing for Labour's vote
Article Abstract:
Channel 4 should not be privatised, according to Paula Milne, writer of the television programme 'The Politician's Wife.' She will shortly be expressing her views at the annual conference of the UK Labour party, where she will be seeking to encourage the party to make some commitment to public service broadcasting. The Labour party has not yet made clear its position on this issue. It should use this opportunity to defend range and diversity in broadcasting and to be seen to be giving priority to the interests of viewers.

Labour relations
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour party will not make far-reaching modifications to broadcasting laws if it wins the May. 1, 1997 general election. Labour broadcasting minister Dr Lewis Moonie is being firm and careful over future policy but looks certain to make modifications to ownership regulations. He is opposed to Conservative minister Virginia Bottomley's proposals to sanitise television broadcasting.
