Come together
Article Abstract:
The European Audiovisual Conference in Birmingham, England, in Apr 1998 will consider issues including convergence, which will allow traditional services such as telephony and broadcasting and new services such as electronic mail to be supplied to any platform over a number of different kinds of networks. Within the debate about convergence, there are two key issues. These are the concentration of power and competitive advantage and protecting diversity, culture and pluralism. Convergence prompts policy issues which the European Commission's Green Paper, issued in Dec 1997, seeks to address.
