Factual figurehead
Article Abstract:
Independent Television Controller of Documentaries, Features and Arts Grant Mansfield is very supportive of the documentary soap (docu-soap) type of programmes. He suggests some ideas used in docu-soaps could be expanded into other types of programmes. He points out controllers are much more involved with the production process of a program and he has been known to return programmes which felt did not reach the right standards. Mansfield is known to be a poor administrator. He is considering the merits of 775 programme offers made during Sept 1998. Mansfield has been in post since Jan 1998.

Guiding lights
Article Abstract:
Individual personalities in the sixty year history of the British Broadcasting Corporation are known for the parts they played in making the BBC the respected organisation it became. They were all strong-minded and devoted to broadcasting and include Cecil McGivern, considered to be the architect of the BBC, Peter Dimmock the head of Outside Broadcasts who, in fighting to have the 1953 coronation broadcast created the public image of television, and Monica Sims who developed children's television programming. A date line of managing directors and channel controllers is included.
