Thatcherism and the emergence of Sky Television
Article Abstract:
The framework of society is reflected in the political economy of the media and its relationship to its audience. The late 1980s creation of Sky Television, a British satellite broadcasting firm, reflected free market principles based on the political climate of the time. The company's internal economic organization and its response to consumer choice and demand are therefore directly connected to the Thatcherite hegemony.
