How the C4/Five deal died
Article Abstract:
The proposed merger between Channel 4 and Five, which was in the cards for almost eighteen months, eventually fell through after the latest discussion over lunch at One Aldwych Hotel in London. The reason quoted by C4 was that the merger didn't fit into their idea for a greater role in public service broadcasting. Five, which had hoped the merger would enhance its image in the multichannel market, might now go in for the acquisition of Flextech or a tie up with BSkyB.
