ITV in turmoil over 60m pounds sterling rescue plan
Article Abstract:
There have been strong differences of opinion within the ITV network over plans to increase the programme budget by up to 60 million pounds sterling in order to become more competitive against the BBC and to prepare for future competition from satellite and Channel 5. Granada and Carlton, the two largest ITV broadcasters, support the plan, while smaller ITV broadcasters claim that they will be unable to increase the programming budget. Some people within ITV believe that efforts should be made to ensure that full value is obtained from the money which is already spent, rather than increasing spending.
