ITV lands Lambert for Real Life docs
Article Abstract:
ITV has gotten the services of Stephen Lambert, BBC's award-winning editor, to become the editor of Real Life, its new single documentary series that is believed to occupy the slot that the News at Ten will vacate. Observers noted the move mirrors ITV's efforts to follow what BBC 1 has done to make its Inside Story a success. Lambert is scheduled to leave his job at BBC in September 1998 to become RDF Television's director of programs while commissioning and editing Real Life on a freelance basis. Real Life is scheduled to be rolled out in early 1999 for a 12x60-minute annual run.

PM warns ITV on latest bid to shift News at Ten
Article Abstract:
ITV's proposed change of broadcast time of its News at Ten to 6:30 pm with a follow-up segment at 11 pm has been opposed by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Blair believes that the news program should stay at its present time slot warning against potential TV news marginalization and deterioration of its market. Blair, however, acknowledges that final decision is with the Independent Television Commission (ITC). ITV will be able to broadcast at the new time slot by January 1999 if the ITC gives its approval depending on the response of the public.

Why stunts won't wash
Article Abstract:
The past Big Brother show's successes are organic, based on the public's affection for the various characters and not the games or stunts pulled by the producers. This show is watched by fewer than half of those who tuned in to the opening night, despite of all sorts of efforts put by the team to make the series go with a bang.
