ITV to put The Bill on six-month trial
Article Abstract:
ITV has given "The Bill," a long-running police drama, until January 1999 to improve its ratings. The series, produced by Pearson TV, UK's largest independent producer of television programs, has been reeling from the competition put up by such programs as "Animal Hospital" and "Driving School," both produced by BBC 1. Beginning in August 1998, The Bill will be aired at different durations including a one-hour and a 75-minute long versions that are designed to gauge the audience's acceptance of its new format.

Monsanto angry at ITV food claims
Article Abstract:
Granada Television is facing a formal complaint filed by Monsanto with the Broadcasting Standards Commission alleging that it was treated unfairly with ITV's airing of a "World in Action" investigative report, "Eat Up Your Genes." The show dealt with the controversial research on genetically modified food. Granada, however, contends that the "World in Action" team presented the report citing the research done by Dr. Putzai in good faith and that the program did not specifically refer to Monsanto's products.
