"Ideology": a note on conceptual salvage
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the role of "ideology" as a philosophical concept in the study of mass media and society since 1970 is examined. Topics include the changing role and significance of ideology, the fate of Marxism, the role of postmodernism and poststructuralism on ideology, the use of ideology in the 1970s to open up new critical areas, and predictions that the concept of ideology will not be used as a critical tool in future research.

Television in theory
Article Abstract:
Television theory is largely abstract and often leads to unfocused and unproductive discourses. Criticism and evaluation should change its focus to more empirical analyses and emphasize the social, cultural and political concerns of television and television theory. The continuing shifts in media criticism and research offers a wide arena of academic study.
