If there's no such thing as reality, has Elvis really left the building?
Article Abstract:
Shawn Parry-Giles criticism of the approach taken in the book 'Prime-Time Feminism,' of attempting to distinguish between fact and reality in mass media's representation of feminist conceptions of rape should not be negated on the mere pronouncement that discerning the indiscernible is a waste of time. The distinction between mass media depictions of rape and how the actual victims experienced it needs to be delineated so that expected political response to the crime will not be limited to the incomplete and inaccurate media portrayals.

Her feminism doesn't fit: a response to Parry-Giles
Article Abstract:
Shawn Parry-Giles ignored accurate media representations of women's issues in her bid to drive her point that mass media consistently presents distorted images of women. Though her attempt to put a halt to the excessive focus on physical aesthetics and sexuality when depicting women is laudable, the means she employs are biased. In the book 'The Silicone Breast Implant Story,' the media gave due coverage to women's views on the links between their illness and the implants, as well as the lack of support given to them by physicians.
