It just won't wash
Article Abstract:
British television soap operas, such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale, are extremely popular in the United Kingdom although they have never been as popular oversees, unlike their international equivalents from America and Australia. Five-day screening has proven to be the most successful recipe throughout the world, although as yet none of the British soaps are shown on this basis. Grundy, with productions in over 15 countries, is expected to attain a five day a week stripped soap slot on the new Channel 5, called Lifeline.

Four's sextet
Article Abstract:
Commissioning work at Channel 4 is set to undergo considerable changes as two controllers' posts are abolished. Channel 4's commissioning editors will now work in six genre groupings, rather than the previous two, and each group will be managed by a head of department. Some independent programme producers believe that Channel 4 Chief Executive Michael Jackson is determined to be directly involved in programming, especially as he has abolished a layer between himself and his new commissioning team.
