Kids and crime
Article Abstract:
Reportage of juvenile crime tends to center on the sensational, the increases in violent crime both in kind and degree. Studies have shown this sort of reportage to be inaccurate and that property crimes greatly outweigh violent crimes, but receive inverse coverage. There have been juvenile courts in all states since 1945 based on the view of the court as a beneficent parent. However, this denies the child offender constitutional rights and often skews their treatment toward punishment rather than rehabilitation.

Paradox of democracy - more channels, less discourse
Article Abstract:
The contradictory nature of democratizing commercial television is evident as it ensures a medium of expression and facilitates unity and consensus-building while weakening the power of television to shape events and reach the entire nation. The widening of cable systems to 150 channels with extremely specialized television programs offers viewers more choice than they had in the 1950's and 1960s and is characterized by domination of programs by NBC, ABC and CBS.
