The structure of the international media industry is changing extremely rapidly, and it is therefore difficult for television broadcasting companies to establish a long-term strategy. However, Pearson TV is convinced that it will see rapid expansion. It will benefit from the assets already held by the Pearson Group, and will be able to establish itself as a global operator. The purchase of Grundy, for example, has already brought it links with other large media concerns.

MTV vessels: MTV Europe is to invest heavily in original programming as part of a global expansion plant. Why?

MTV Europe is planning second Europen channel and is aiming to increase its live programming. The company has profited mainly from exporting inexpensive music video shows to more than 50 countries, and programme making is becoming a priority. Expanded production facilities are planned for Italy, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Germany.

MacKenzie tightens grip in major Live TV clear-out

Managing director of Mirror Television, Kelvin MacKenzie, has cut around 30 jobs at Live TV. The channel failed to appeal to a core audience but there are plans to return to the old brief. New production staff are to be recruited and the aim is to create a dynamic and ground-breaking channel.
