Peering forward: the conduct of the news media is part of a fretful arc of apprehension that spans the 20th century
Article Abstract:
It is clear that journalism has played a key role in the 20th century in making democracy more accessible and inclusive. It is uncertain how the role of journalism will develop in the 21st century. Works such as Edward Bellamy's 'Looking Backward,' Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World,' George Orwell's '1984' Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke's '2001: A Space Odyssey' and William Gibson's 'Neuromancer' give a valuable insight into significant aspects of speculative fiction. It seems that a mixture of entertainment, journalism and infotainment is now what is taken to be real.

We've come a long way - maybe
Article Abstract:
Lifestyle journalism has undergone changes and has become more interesting. It now includes a walk-through of television programs and, later on, the wonders of the electronic media. Quality-of-life issues including coverage of men and women responsible for initiating changes as well as propagation of values and passing along of traditions will comprise the stories of tomorrow. Editors will think not only locally but also globally. More doors also will be opened to women journalists venturing into this type of profession.

Letter from the future - II: change is for the better when journalists stop seeing themselves as victims
Article Abstract:
Journalism may have the opportunity to become much more positive in the future if journalists are willing to stop regarding themselves as victims of developments in areas such as advertising and the Internet. In the future, journalists may become more willing to acknowledge the existence of other media, and may even encourage readers to seek other sources of information. They may recognize that there can no longer be any justification for abandoning ethics and for failing to adhere to high standards.
