ITV director of television Simon Shaps' move to revamp the network's program schedule reflects the important role of scheduling in increasing the ratings of TV shows. Amidst the popularity of digital video recorders, video-on-demand and the iPlayer, networks still exert a great deal in determining their schedule. Various scheduling practices are also discussed.

Terrestrial channel Five had to freeze commissioning shows in 2007, but it has created strategic commissioning plans to make the channel fun again.
