Second rate runners: moderately successful shows are generally given second runs, but they rarely fulfill their promise
Article Abstract:
BBC 1 and ITV have been resurrecting more series over the past 15 months although revivals usually bring a smaller audience, whether a peak time show is successful or not. ITV will not screen any new weekly drama series between May 1994 and 1996, and it has no new hit comedy for four years. However 12 of its 23 series beat the channel's average audience share on first runs, and six on the second, compared to BBC 1's nine out of 27 outperforming on the first run and three on the second run.

American signal. (NTL sold to CableTel)
Article Abstract:
The sale of NTL to CableTel of the US has left UK TV wondering whether BBC and ITV programmes could be transmitted by a US cable operator. Some in the TV industry have warned of a monopoly in the making, with the BBC Transmission facility soon to be privatised, if a bid from NTL is considered.
