Television executives in the UK have a varied choice of locations for their 1997 summer holidays. Carlton Chief Executive Clive Jones plans to take his family to Norfolk, England. Television presenter Melvyn Bragg prefers to visit his cottage in Cumbria, England. British Broadcasting Corporation Head of Arts Kim Evans chooses to work in July and August but in June 1997 visited the Namibian Desert. Granada Productions Joint Managing Director Andrea Wonfor is planning to spend the summer in the Caribbean.

Natural history producers must constantly seek new approaches if they are to retain audiences. They are now tending to focus on the story behind natural history, rather than simply on facts. Latest natural history programmes therefore have a strong narrative element, although some observers have criticised moves to change documentary formats in order to appeal to wider audiences.
