TV's interactive adventure
Article Abstract:
UK television viewers will be given the opportunity to take part in interactive television activities when digital television is launched at the end of 1998. Services will include banking, shopping and internet access. British Digital Broadcasting is expected to launch 20 digital terrestrial TV stations in 1998, with backing from Granada Group and Carlton Communications. Developing interactive programming is a major concern to the companies embarking on the new service, as many adjustments will needed to be made once the system is live.

Great expectations
Article Abstract:
Students completing media studies courses in the UK are not automatically employed by the television industry when they graduate. The numbers of students are growing and reached 32,000 in 1996. Skillset is the industry's training body and wants to co-ordinate the requirements of the industry with the contents of courses. Many students work for the television industry without payment, hoping to benefit by the experience, but are given menial tasks to perform without any educational aspect.
