The multi-channel, digital television age requires Channel 4 to continue to be a responsible but distinctive television broadcaster, while remaining commercially viable. Since 1985, the channel's news and current affairs output has risen by 40%, while science, education and documentary hours have also increased. The advent of digital Channel 4 II is the next challenge for the broadcaster to undertake.

Women on top in TV?
Article Abstract:
Women centered programs are on the rise on TV and this trend will grow. With the growing feminism of TV, job opportunities in this field will increase and it is up to women how well they can balance their jobs and families. This would be a bigger challenge for them.

Andrea Wonfor: risk taker in the regions
Article Abstract:
A tribute to Andrea Wonfor, who died recently from cancer aged 60. Best remembered for her aggressive fighting and risk taking skills, she was instrumental in pushing the Big Breakfast show and dramas. She brought the best of young talent into the world of TV.
