Pioneer Productions' work on the series "Extreme Machines" for the Learning Channel, focused one episode on underwater disasters, and shortly into production the Russian submarine Kursk sank. Special effects manager Mandy Cohen tells how a 10-foot model of the submarine was built to re-enact the story from the inside and out, and how other special effects and underwater filming presented challenges.
