Virtual aid scoops RTS award
Article Abstract:
Televirtual, the Independent Television Commission and the University of East Anglia's newly-developed virtual character Simon has won the 1998's Royal Television Society Technical Innovation Award for Research and Development. The character, which had been developed with the help of the deaf community, took two years to be developed and could effectively improve television for deaf and aurally impaired viewers. It could also paved the method in which future digital TV services supply a deaf signing service.
