Is perfect price discrimination really efficient?: welfare and existence in general equilibrium
Article Abstract:
The full use of surplus in monopoly markets is efficient in equilibrium. In a perfectly discriminating monopoly equilibrium (PDM), prices of competitive commodities and household incomes are constant. PDM also affixes individualized nonlinear tariffs for the commodities to increase profits. PDM equilibrium has been found to be inefficient but becomes efficient when the monopoly commodities are expensive.
