A High-Yield Return why is the Pentagon Doling out Huge contracts to a merchant bank?
Article Abstract:
The merchant bank Carlyle Group's ability to acquire high value contracts from the Pentagon is attributed to its majority stake in various defense industry firms. In 1998, it received contracts cumulatively worth $382 million to develop new technologies for the US military and was also the recipient of $1 billion in procurement awards. Another factor for Carlyle's success in getting defense contracts is that many of its highest-ranking officials are former government officials such as Frank Carlucci, James Baker and Richard Darman.
