A versatile navy
Article Abstract:
Turkey's defense policy is based on the protection and preservation of national independence and the Turkish's Navy's fundamental mission is to defend the country against all maritime threats and to protect its maritime interests while contributing to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region. They are trying to create and maintain modern Sea Power for the 21st century challenges with the help of TUN Modernization Plan based on Turkish Defense Industry Capabilities.

Striving for better winds
Article Abstract:
The Turkish Naval Forces is undergoing a surface combatant modernization which requires the construction of six frigates to meet its operational requirements in the 21st century. It also involves the design/development and construction of around 12 ASW-capable OPVs. Another area of modernization in the shallow water capability area is one involving a cooperation with Lurssen Werft, namely, the Fast Patrol Boat program which covers three platforms.

The evolution of the Turkish Navy is described and its importance in view of Turkey being directly linked with the three seas surrounding the Anatolian Peninsula is highlighted. Additionally, the role of the Turkish Navy in implementation of Turkey's foreign policy is detailed.
