Arming the forces: Trends in India's acquisitions
Article Abstract:
The recent trend in India's defense procurement and its quest for acquiring sophisticated weapon systems for its armed forces are discussed. The ground-based systems include the T-90 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) from Russia, and surface-to-surface missiles from Israel and Russia, aerospace weapons include the MiG-29 and Su-30 family of multi-purpose fighter aircraft from Russia, MIRAGEs from France and the British HAWK Advanced Jet Trainers (AJTs), and naval systems include aircraft carriers, frigates from Russia, and Submarines from Germany.

Reforms ahead in Indian Armed Forces
Article Abstract:
The Chief of the Indian Air Force has urged for rightsizing the service to make it more efficient and able to meet future security challenges. The Indian security planners are faced with the challenge of gaining maximum benefit from the military funds inspite of severe budgetary constraints.
