Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) lacked an area air-defence capability for five years after it withdrew its final Perth-class destroyer from service in 2001. An insight into the Project SEA 4000 Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) programme, with which RAN seeks to balance and regain an area of anti-air warfare (AAW) capability, is presented.
