Withdrawal from the Chosin Reservoir

Air support for the troops withdrawing from the Chosin Reservoir, during the Korean War, is described. The support was essential, enabling troops to battle their way out of a situation in which they were surrounded by fresh forces from China.

The 50th anniversary of the withdrawal from the Chosin Reservoir, early in the Korean War, is remembered. The officers and enlisted men of the First Marine Division are also remembered, and commended.

The US 1st Marine Division, during the Korean War, had the pleasure of fighting side by side with the 41 Independent Commando Royal Marines from the UK. The history of this elite British unit, and its experiences in Korea, are discussed.
