Lt. William B. Cushing laid the groundwork for naval space warfare during the Civil War. Accounts of William B. Cushing's daring attack using a specially designed steam launch and perilous achievement in destroying the rebel ironclad steamer Albemarle on 27 October 1864 at Plymouth, North Carolina, are described.

Navy helped restore order in aftermath of San Francisco quake
Article Abstract:
A massive earthquake shook San Francisco on April 18, 1906 knocking down hundreds of structures and crushing many residents before Hurricane Katrina. The Navy used its destroyer ship Preble to bring in many surgeons and nurses to the devastated city with great difficulty.
