Russia's criminals go global
Article Abstract:
The Russian 'Mafiya' or organized crime syndicate is adistinct and dynamic form of contemporary organized crime and consists of a series of loose and flexible networks of semi-independent criminal entrepreneurs. It has not only established a powerful hold over much of Russian economic and political life, but is also rapidly maneuvering to become an international phenomenon. The Russian Mafiya is believed to oeprate directly in 60-65 nations worldwide, and there are few parts of the world where its influence is not felt.

The organized and transnational crime groups are posing serious challenges to the Central Asian Republic, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The ability of their governments to handle the situation in order to prevent organized crimes is determined.
