Computer system helps modernize fire support
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Navy ships, including the aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln , will be using the same sophisticated computer power, called advanced field artillery tactical data system (AFATDS), which helps to coordinate naval gunfire, field artillery and air power in support of troops ashore. Raytheon has built the AFATDS system that helps in planning, coordinating, and controlling artillery fires from a variety of sources, which include naval guns and aircrafts.

Article Abstract:
Executives from the competing companies such as General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are setting their goals to compete and win the contract for the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. The Navy plans to contract detailed design and construction of the first LCS hull at the beginning of the fiscal year 2005 and the second at the beginning of the fiscal 2006.
