First Australian LPA joins amphibious force..
Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Navy field-tested its first landing platform ampbibious (LPA) seacraft, the HMAS Manoora, before the end of 1999. A second LPA ship, the HMAS Kanimbla, is expected to join the fleet by May 2000. The two helicopter support ships represents a significant increase in the amphibious capability of the Australian Defense Force. The establishment of the Australian Amphibious Force under Captain Steve Hook is seen as a move to take advantage of this development.
