Engineers on Iwo
Article Abstract:
The combat support provided by the 5th engineer battalion to the 5th Marine division at Iwo Jima in February and March 1945 is illustrated. Iwo Jima became a milestone on the road to the complete conquest of the Japanese and it is also a tribute to the successful accomplishments of the engineering feat that went through difficult situations while helping the toughest of operations with men, equipments and engineering materials.

A relook at the Marine rifle squad
Article Abstract:
The history of the United States Marine rifles squad and the experiment conducted to obtain the best team that can meet all challenges are discussed. It was found that 13-man rifle squad was better than 11-man rifle squad, as it has perfect balance of fire power, flexibility, maneuverability, sustainment and survivability to respond to the nation's expeditionary needs.

Make the hard decision: Select a quality Marine to lead the remain behind element
Article Abstract:
A Marine unit is best served by choosing a capable leader to serve with its remain behind elements (RBE) who will handle casualty calls, dealing with panicked families, and tracking medically evacuated Marines. The RBE officer in charge should be tremendous, but unheralded, asset to the entire ballation`s morale and functioning during deployment.
