General Atomics chosen for carrier arresting gear development
Article Abstract:
The Naval Air Systems Command has awarded General Atomics a five-year, US$95.8 million contract for the system development and demonstration of the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) that will trap aircraft as they land onboard a carrier. Also, the Portable Advanced Telemetry Acquisition System (PATAS), built by Sypris Data Systems, is being used to assess the war-fighting capacity of Navy ships and aircraft from unit to battle group level.

The Naval Air Warfare CenterEs Aircraft Division awarded San Diego based General Atomics the contract for development and demonstration of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS). The EMALS will revolutionize aircraft carrier flight operations by replacing the existing maintenance-intensive steam-powered catapults on aircraft carriers.
