Holding breath on AIP
Article Abstract:
Newly formed ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, with the merger of ThyssenKrupp Werften and HDW in January 2005, has established a new naval shipbuilding group that incorporates three European yards, all with significant experience in Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) for submarines. The products of the newly formed group and also the future of their latest technologies are explored.

The United States-based investment company One Equity Partners (OEP) and ThyssenKrupp Technologies have signed a declaration of intent approving the sale of Germany's HowaldtswerkeDeutsche Werft (HDW) to ThyssenKrupp, which keeps the company in German hands. This merger proves to be an attempt to strengthen Germany's hand before entering into a wider European consolidation.
