South Asia goes ballistic, then nuclear
Article Abstract:
Pakistan's flight test of its Ghauri missile in April 6, 1998, reveals a previously confidential program to develop an intercontinental continental ballistic missile (IRBM) capability. While Pakistan's ambitions to build an indigenous IRBM has long been known, the timing of the test is said to stem from pressures to keep up with India's nuclear defense capability. Despite the test, Pakistani officials revealed that the Ghauri was still in the research and development stage and not yet operational. Meanwhile, Pakistan's test is said to have triggered India's decision to test its own nuclear weapons.

Polish armoured vehicle developments
Article Abstract:
The Polish defense industry has entered the international arms market for armored combat vehicles as part of its efforts to survive. Collaboration with Western companies is considered critical in strenuous industry efforts to upgrade its existing military combat vehicle products and procure new weapon systems. The main political goal behind these initiatives is to facilitate Poland's acceptance into the NATO alliance. This goal may well be reached as an evaluation of the latest generation of Polish combat vehicles suggests that they represent an indigenous capability for chassis and turret design.
