Ingalls, Raytheon team for DD 21 concept design
Article Abstract:
Raytheon Systems Co. and Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Litton, have partnered with each other for the creation of a total-ship design and concept for the DD 21 land-attack destroyer of the US Navy. Raytheon and Ingalls' partnership, along with the partnership of Lockheed Martin Government Electronic Systems and Bath Iron Works, will comprise the Shipbuilder Alliance for the creation of a concept design for the DD 21. A proposed initial DD 21 program phase and the two partnerships' detailed plans will be forwarded in July 1998 by the Shipbuilder Alliance.

Merger increases Europe's potential submarine share
Article Abstract:
Celsius AB of Sweden and Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werf (HDW) of Germany have announced the merger of their naval shipbuilding operations in a $120 million deal. Celsius will swap its stake in Kockums Naval Systems for 25% plus one share in the newly created HDW Group. Celsius has the option to boost its stake in the new company to 50%. The new HDW Group will also absorb Celsius' 49% stake in the Australian Submarine Corp.

EADS and ThyssenKrupp team for Atlas Elektronik bid
Article Abstract:
EADS and ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems have joined together to buy BAE Systems' German marine subsidiary, Atlas Elektronik. The two companies have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and if their joint bid is successful, then ThyssenKrupp would hold 60% of Atlas and EADS 40%.
