Iran's conventional forces remain key to deterring potential threats
Article Abstract:
Iran's potential to develop a nuclear arsenal is in the event of the US or Israeli air strikes against it, and Iran can only look to its conventional armed forces to defend its sovereignty. Although there is much reason to avoid a military strike on Iran, it could become inevitable should attempts to resolve the issue of its nuclear programs fail.

Iran is most likely expected to threaten the use of a punishment-based deterrence following a limited US military strike or the imposition of a naval blockade or sanctions.
