Laser depth sounding- a new way for sea mine Detection
Article Abstract:
A technique based on laser depth sounding principles specifically developed for hydrographic and oceanographic surveys is assessed for the mine warfare at sea to provide some insights into its possible applicability for the mine detection role. The study concluded that the airbonic depth sounding LIDAR could be seen as an emerging methodology which can be employed-in the future as a viable addition to the array of traditional mine counter measures (MCM) techniques.

Littoral warfare: Capabilities and assets required
Article Abstract:
War in the littorals and in a typical narrow sea in particular, differs considerably from that on the open ocean, primarily on account of the general smallness of the physical space and the proximity of the continental landmass. A force composition that enables successful operations in the littorals is proposed and the threat posed by weapons preferably used in the littorals, from anti-ship missiles to mines and coastal gun systems, is discussed.

Part II: Mine warfare: Are we prepared for the worst?
Article Abstract:
The blue-water and coastal navies of the US lag behind in neutralizing mine threats in very shallow water and in surf zone despite their best efforts. The blue-water Navy should shift its efforts and resources from defensive to offensive mine counter measures (MCM), the prerequisite for the success of which is to obtain and maintain a continuous, reliable picture of all aspects of the mine situation in a given theatre or part of a theater.
