Article Abstract:
The newly formed Marine Logistics Command (Logcom)'s mission and activities are described. The development of the Global Combat Support System - Marine Corps to enable the Marine Corps logistics model is highlighted, for which experts in the industry, academia and other parts of the Defense Department and government, have been consulted, identifying best business practices and processes from each, and later applying them to specific logistics problem.

A new operational concept called as the distributed operations is developed by the U.S. Marine Corps that relies on flexible, small-unit expertise and high-tech information network. This force works independently and maintains strong ties to other units and higher commands.
