Diversity is a significant factor for increasing the proficiency of senior Marines, and they could gain additional qualifications and diverse wisdom through their execution of varied duties regardless of their career path. True understanding and appreciation of the Marine Corps as a whole and the way levels and types of command influence, and are influenced by, others is only possible by immersion to one degree or another.

The performance evaluation system (PES) produces completely invalid reports, especially when describing below average performers, creating several problematic scenarios for evaluators, promotion boards and the U.S. Marine Corps. In the competitive promotion environment, the recipient of an adverse fitness report puts his career in serious jeopardy and reduces his chances of promotion.
