New map system takes shape
Article Abstract:
Marine Corps Systems Command topographic specialists currently are developing an innovative computer system, called Topographic Production Capability (TPC). The new map system is designed for use by the Marine Corps and uses detailed and most current data to produce map products. TPC, which is intended to be made mostly from off-the-shelf commercial sources, is a system of networked computer terminals using map information for the production of mission-specific maps. The system will enable direct access by the topographic Marines into the mapping information of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency through the Internet.

Fixing the supply system: bringing the ATLAS into the 21s century
Article Abstract:
The PC-based version of the ATLASS should be updated into a web-based system to enable the Marine Corps to adapt to the needs of the organization in the 21st century. The Web-based version would give the Marine Corps' supply sections direct access to the mainframce database without compromising the mainframes' database integrity. The use of new technology like application servers and browsers would enable the Marine Corps to shift to a realtime supply chain management systems from the once-a-day batch processing of supply requisitions.
