Out of the blue: Airborne Maritime Patrol goes littoral
Article Abstract:
Navies of different countries have been reconsidering their maritime patrol objectives. This is due to the need to support littoral operations and smaller defense budgets in the 1990s. The US Navy has reorganized its maritime patrol aircraft mission due to the shift to littoral activity and smaller budget. The US Navy used to operate in the deep oceans with more funds. In connection, the US Navy has established a group of ship-based helicopters. These aircraft will supply short- and medium-range ASW and ASUW services to most of its surface ships.
