PSYOPS comes into play against Saddam

U.S. has designed psychological operations (PSYOPS) to provide selected information and an indicator to foreign leaders and audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning and behavior to favor friendly objectives. Its approaches are used to lever operational effectiveness in Iraqi contingencies, thus the various range of PSYOPS used to help bring about Saddam HussainEs demise are highlighted.

Moqtada al-Sadr's organization and its militia, the Mahdi Army, initiated demonstrations and attacks on Coalition forces and facilities in Baghdad's Sadr City and across southern Iraq. Under the combined influence of Coalition military action and mainstream Shi'ite political pressure, al-Sadr has dropped to a less confrontational stance, emphasizing political co-operation and a reduced military profile.
