An alternative to the `System of Systems'
Article Abstract:
An alternative to the `System of Systems' approach to tap the Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA) could significantly improve the preparedness of the US and the Marines for future warfare. The System of Systems model and other current approaches tend to be overly mechanistic and put too much emphasis on technology. The alternative puts emphasis on three components. These are the commander, the decisionmaker who employs the knowledge critical in waging war; the warfighting doctrine, or the mission command and control; and appropriate enabling C4I technologies.

Preparing for hybrid wars: What will be the future Marine Corps capability
Article Abstract:
Combinations of conventional and irregular warfare by states or nonstate groups, called hybrid wars, pose a threat to U.S. vulnerabilities through unexpected unique combinations of multimodal and multivariant forms of unrestrained warfare. Hybrid wars such as those conducted by the Hezbollah in Lebanon necessitate the transformation of Marines into hybrid warriors of multipurpose units enabled to use their education, training and operational capabilities to engage in unexpected war situations.
