RDN: Twin pillars of transformation
Article Abstract:
The Royal Danish Navy is preparing for the most drastic change seen in two centuries as it plans to discard a large part of its legacy fleet to fund new multirole support ships and surface combatants able to contribute to international crisis-management tasks, while also maintaining its core work of protecting Denmark's national interests. Two new 6,300-tonne displacement Combat Support Ships, HDMS Absolon and HDMS Esbern Snare, are in frontline of this transformation.

Breaking up is hard to do
Article Abstract:
The scrapping of decommissioned warships is becoming a major problem for European governments due to lack of large-scale ship recycling facilities, export restrictions imposed by the Basel Convention and a growing awareness of the health, safety and environmental shortcomings of the ship breaking industry in the developing world. Efforts are being made to develop a principled, safe and environmentally sound recycling strategy.
