Seventh FPC for Kuwait launched
Article Abstract:
Constructions Mecaniques de Normandie (CMN) has launched the seventh fast patrol craft (FPC) it has built for Kuwait at Cherbourg on Mar 3, 1999. The FPC, called Al-Yamook, will be used to upgrade Kuwait's coastal defense capabilities. The contract, which is for eight FPCs, is valued at $470 million. The FPCs have a top speed of over 30kt are share the CMN Combattante I design. CMN says the craft have a turning circle of two boat lengths, have a waterline lenth of 37m, and are powered with two MTU 16V 538 TB93 diesels and two Kamewa water jets.

DCN and Kockums agree to co-operate
Article Abstract:
Celsius AB of Sweden and DCN of France have created a partnership on technical cooperation, which will lend support to future designs of submarine technology. A new France-based company, which will be equally staffed and owned by Celsius and DCN, will be created to handle the technical-cooperation agreement of the two firms. The Swedish and French governments have also supported Celsius and DCN's partnership, which will also accept other parties seeking to affiliate themselves with the business alliance.

Germans pleased with Seafox results
Article Abstract:
The German Navy was pleased with the results of trials with the Seafox mine countermeasure (MCM) system manufactured by STN Atlas Elektronic GmbH of Bremen, Germany. The trials were conducted in the Baltic Sea from May 4-12, 2000 using the Hameln-class ship FGS Kulmbach, which is the first to receive the Seafox MCM system. During the trials, the Seafox showed that it can dispose of mines in just 15 min.
