Article Abstract:
Cuban President Fidel Castro's illness has led to much debate in the United States about Cuba's future in a post-Castro scenario, but a US engagement in the transition of Cuba to a democracy is hampered by its trade embargo with Cuba. It seems very likely that President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, who like Castro has a leaning towards revolutionary ideas and an aversion for the US, will influence Cuba's future at least in the short-term.
