Spanish LEO programme to proceed
Article Abstract:
Spain has given approval to proceed with a program worth about $2 billion for license construction of a series of 219 LEOPARD 2 MBTs and 16 BUFFEL ARVs. The main battle tank is the key element of the Spanish Army's Coraza 2000 programme, along with the 108 LEOPARD 2A4s currently on lease. Detail talks are ongoing as regards the specific technical specifications of the Spanish LEOPARDO 2E variant and the indispensable offset and industrial participation package. Spain is scheduled to initiate the production of the 235 vehicles in 2000 and be concluded by 2006.

British Army Demonstration Team: Scimitar sharpens up
Article Abstract:
The Scimitar medium reconnaissance tank was showcased by the British Army Demonstration Team at TRIDEX 2000 in the United Arab Emirates. The tank has been adapted by the British Army after its successful performance with the NATO Stabilisation Force in Bosnia, Yugoslavia. Some of the improvements incorporated in the Scimitar include a refurbished gearbox and the fitting of an exhaust and air induction system preparatory to the mounting of a diesel engine.
