The Naval Ship Code - a new safety standard for naval vessels?
Article Abstract:
The path leading to the development of the Naval Ship Code (NSC), its effects on naval shipbuilding and the possible consequences for the Navies are examined. The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS: Safety of Life at Sea) and the NSC forms the building block in the regulatory framework for naval vessels and their implementation might prevent the accidents in the future.

A large number of naval ships were built in Australia during the mid-eighties that transformed the Australian Naval Shipbuilding and Repair sector. Major shipbuilding companies manufactured the ships while smaller industries along with the significant shipbuilders carried out repair, maintenance and modification work of the Royal Australian Navy ships and shipboard systems.
