The first six weeks
Article Abstract:
The US Air Force-led NATO aerial attack force's campaign against Serbian forces in Yugoslavia provides a number of important lessons. Foremost among these are the clearly widening gaps in military capability between the US and its NATO partners, and the awkwardness of conducting a war by committee. For the US, the air campaign underscored the impact of years of reduced military funding and the weaknesses of the strategy based on its size and structure. Despite these drawbacks, however, the NATO forces performed credibly, losing only one plane to enemy action, with only 7/10 of 1% of its bombs going astray to cause collateral damage.
